This course introduces counseling in speech-language pathology, focusing on micro-skills, frameworks, and best practices through practice, lectures, and discussions, applying across disorder populations and age groups.

Learning Outcome

1. Students will be able to use core counseling microskills (e.g., listening, nonverbal communication, silence, empathy, and verbal responding) during interactions.

2. Students will describe and apply knowledge of counseling approaches (e.g. cognitive, behavioral, affective, etc.) and frameworks to various clinical contexts (e.g., disorder populations, ages, settings).
