Title

Intellectual curiosity, humility, persistence, and patience

Learning Outcome

Development of intellectual curiosity, humility, persistence, and patience in asking questions and interpreting evidence Students will ask questions and develop tools to answer those questions Students will exhibit habits of integrity in analyzing data Students will recognize the limitations of descriptive statistics and avoid overclaiming causality

Title

Analyze and interpret models with known population distributions

Learning Outcome

Application of statistical methods to analyze and interpret models with known population distributions Students will calculate the probabilities of simple event using tools such as combinatorics, Bayes' rule, and the law of total probability. Students will use random variables to model and interpret real-world phenomena with one or two variables. Students will describe and interpret relationships between variables using correlation and regression.

Title

Analysis of sample data to draw inferences about a population

Learning Outcome

Analysis of sample data to draw inferences about a population of interest Students will apply statistical methods to derive estimates of population characteristics from sample data. Students will evaluate properties of sample estimators of population parameters Students will compute margins of error for estimates. Students will conduct and interpret hypothesis tests of population parameters.

Title

Investigation of economic questions through data analysis

Learning Outcome

Formulation and investigation of economic questions through data analysis Students will use foundational coding tools to manage and analyze data. Students will complete a signature project demonstrating integration of course learning objectives.
