Learning Outcome

This course provides the opportunity for practice of marital and family therapy in the Brigham Young University Comprehensive Clinic under faculty supervision. Practicum is designed to assist you in becoming a competent Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) by helping you translate and apply what you have learned in didactic courses to actual clinical cases. To that end, practicum will emphasize the development of skills associated with the following BYU MFT Master's Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs): #1 (academically and clinically prepared for licensure in Utah), #3 (competent in clinical practice), #4 (understand and demonstrate ethical behavior) and #10 (understand diversity in a clinical setting). These address the COAMFTE Developmental Competency components of Practice of Therapy, Human Diversity and Social Structures, and Professional Ethics, Law and Identity. We will work toward those SLOs by targeting the following specific course objectives informed by the BYU Mission & Aims, where the expectation is to provide an education that is Spiritually Strengthening, Intellectually Enlarging, Character Building, and Leads Lifelong Learning and Service.
